Games with 3 players are similar to 2-player games. The only difference, however, is that players now have a choice of which opponent their actions will affect. Players cannot become allies, work together, or exchange resources in a 3-player game. However, verbal, non-binding agreements can, of course, be made.
In a 4-player game there are 2 teams of 2, called Alliances. Allies (i.e. teammates) sit next to each other and have an Alliance card between their play areas, which both of them can use. Some Alliance cards allow for shared use of permanent cards. In this case, place these shared cards close to the Alliance card. Allies are not considered to be opponents, and effects which target opponents cannot target an ally.
Alliance cards can be used with the Activate action. When you activate an Alliance card, put your Runner token on the first spot of the Alliance card. If the Runner token is already on the Alliance card, move it one space toward your ally. The top ability of the Alliance card is only triggered after 3 moves, when the token moves past spots I and II and reaches the space with the ability.
The bottom ability is triggered every time the Alliance card is used. Alliance cards can be activated once per round.
